I've recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and need some advice re choosing a blood glucose monitor. There are so many available on the market which I find confusing. I'm looking for one that is compatible with my iPhone/iPad/iMac. Can anyone recommend one please?

Hello,
I’m type 1 myself but my mum type 2 was given a meter by her G.P. She didn’t have a choice I’m afraid just the one they are prepared to issue the strips for on prescription. If she chose to use a different one then strips would have to be self funded. Different areas may have different rules though.

The main thing with meters are can you afford to fund the strips for how often you plan to use. They can cost from as little as £ 8 or nearer £30, per 50 pot, depending on the brand of meter.

You get 50 strips per pot and when you are doing in depth testing to find out which carbohydrates and the amount if them your body can and can’t handle ie , just before eating then two after starting to eat, the cost soon mounts up . Meters can only use their own brand of test strips .
Sorry I can’t help with meter suitable for iPhones etc as I use a different testing method now .

Hi RG,

Welcome to the forum. I haven't had any experience with monitors that use an app but I've done a quick Amazon search which you can find here https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=glucose+monitor+app&ref=nb_sb_noss_1.

Worth going through the reviews as some are Bluetooth and some allow you to upload via a cable to your comp.

As mentioned above, also consider the cost of the monthly lancets and strips when making your assessments.

What is it you want the phone/tablet app to do @RG* ?

Thanks everyone for your helpful response it is really appreciated. After carrying out research (isn't there a lot of information out there which is very confusing for a newbie!!!) and having received advice from manufacturers (both helpful and unhelpful, the latter giving me details of their product for an android?!?!) I decided to go for a TEE2 Blood Glucose Meter from Spirit Healthcare which is compatible with an iPhone. They couldn't have been more helpful and have offered to send me the meter free of charge!!!! Looking forward to receiving the meter so that I can get on with monitoring my sugar levels and getting things under control. Once again thanks for your help/advice.

I have a Tee2 - found it to be good with cheap test strips. Though I have never tried to connect it to an iphone.
