cholesterol home testing monitor

I used my cholesterol home testing monitor today for the first time and according to the machine, my reading was 4.2. I was pleased with this but wonder how accurate it is because my last reading done through my GP was 5.8 and she wanted to see me to discuss getting it lowered and i'm going to see her next week.
 
I know cholesterol levels can fluctuate, but wouldn't have thought it would be by so much. What sort of claims for accuracy does the machine have?

I will be putting that to the test in the next month or so as i have one too, i am also due for a fasting blood test for cholesterol & hba1c, my GP is interested to find out how accurate it is too....watch this space.
