Choice of pump cannula

Does anyone have more than one type of pump cannula they can order with their normal pump supplies?

I changed to TSlim approx 2 months back and was suggested I use Autosoft 90's. They're ok if a bit fiddly but I've had a number of set failures and consequent high glucose. I tried a couple of TruSteel sets someone kindly sent me and they worked better but left quite a big red lump in my skin. ( Still loving my new pump & Dexcom set up though)

I asked how I could try a different set and was told I need to ask my DSN to request the change and then order some when I next need to order supplies. I wish there was a cannula selection starter box when you first start or change pump makes so you can find out what works best for you. It is such a vital part of the pump set up and without a cannula working reliably it really screws things up quickly.

I'd like to try TruSteel for a few weeks but don't want to have to get Autosoft removed just in case. I don't see why I can't have a couple of cannula types to choose from as long as I only order the usual amount of boxes every 3 months.

Has anyone got this option from their pump clinic. Thanks

I have the autosoft 30s (I dont get on with 90-degree ones)

When first on a pump (medtronic) I spoke to my DSN amd explained about the regularity of quickset failures, and how difficult it was making things.

I was able to have 2-3 of each type of cannula that was available to audition them.

I think some were out of the DSN’s cupboard, but I vaguely remember getting some delivered too.

When first on tSlim I ordered some Autosoft 30s and some Flexisoft(?) which doesn’t have a serter.

Maybe ask Air Liquide? If the sets are the same price, I can’t see they would have a problem?

Thanks Mike.

I asked Air Liquide about it & was told to ask DSN to request change but I only want to change if it’s a good swap. I’ll contact my DSN & ask for some help with trying something else- maybe they’ll have a few cannulas in a cupboard I can sample.

I don’t have a T Slim (I have a Dana pump) but I can order whatever sets I want and don’t need anyone to approve my change. I recently saw a new (to me) type online and ordered a box to try. So far I’ve tried 4 different cannula/sets. I can order different cannulas in one order. I assumed everyone could.

That sounds a really sensible arrangement @Inka .

I was asked which cannula I wanted to use by my DSN before swapping pumps and managed to try a few but that was without insulin going through them. I’ll try and get a more sensible & flexible arrangement if possible.

We are on the T-Slim, and have stuck with the Autosoft 90 but fairly early on daughter wanted to try the Tru-Steel. When we ordered supplies one time we asked for one box of them and they supplied it no problem. Next time though they seemed quite keen for us to decide which one we wanted regularly. Daughter almost changed over but then decided to stick with the soft ones.

That’s weird to be asked before you changed pumps - how would anyone know? Also, different body areas might need different cannulas. As well as me ordering different cannulas myself, Dana (Advanced Therapeutics) actually suggested a new type of cannula when I was describing what would be my ideal cannula.

All I do is phone up when I need supplies (usually every 3 months) and tell them what I want. I currently have three different cannulas and use the type I need when I need it. With my last pump, an Animas Vibe, I also had different cannulas. In fact, I’ve never had a pump that I haven’t had various cannulas for.

I am not on the same system as you @Flower but like @everydayupsanddowns I was given some cannulas out of the cupboard to try, but only because they had some there. i Hope that you get a more sensible response.
