I'm getting a bit fedup of the same drinks and long for a lovely hot chocolate at bedtime. so today I went out and bought some instant hot choc at only 40 cals per mug-full. the carbs are 4.6g with 3.1g being sugar as opposed to 19.2g and 16.3g in another version .... so I thought it would be great

I was soooo looking forward to it and so have just made a mug of the lovely chocolatey yummy-ness

NO!!! 😱 definately not!!! after 6 weeks of strictly cutting out all sugars the drink is sooooooooooooo sweet and sickly :( I can't drink it :(

does anyone know of a good choccy drink that isn't sickly????

Cocoa? With perhaps a little granulated sweetener to taste - that way you can control the sweetness 🙂

yeah, Northerner, I thought about that.... I suppose I could use skimmed milk and save on the carbs and cals. I definately can't drink this instant one :( .... I'll have to invite friends to come and have hot chocolate instead of coffee LOL

What about options? they do mint flavour and all other varieties they do single little packs for 40p each so if you dont like at least your not buying a big box and wasting cash x

this one is the Cadbury Highlights......... so I guess that the others are sweet too???

I suppose the problem is that I cut out all sugars from my diet 6 weeks ago when I was diagnosed. even tinned baked beans taste sweet :(

It's amazing how much your tastes change, isn't it? Mine did too! 🙂

totally amazing. I don't want to go back to eating all that sugar again coz now I can taste things like I never could before. I've got yet another birthday cake to avoid this weekend 😱

Skim milk is actually marginally higher in carbs than whole milk. Think about it logically. They've removed the fat, not the lactose.

Consider trying some experiments with cocoa, cream, boiling water and your choice of sweetener.

You could always add just one spoon of the choccy powder to a cup of coffee - gives an interesting slant and hopefully not too sweet.

I think the cocoa route sounds like a good idea. I'd also throw in a bit of nutmeg for spicyness.

Andy 🙂

I had a mug of Green and Black's cocoa made with semi skimmed millk and I didn't spike. It's quite expensive, but so worth it for an occasional treat.

Donna 🙂

yummy thanks Donna .... I used to drink that before.... I might buy some again 🙂

I had just warm milk.... and put a sprinkling of cinnamon in it.... but I will try some experimenting Alan 🙂 and the nutmeg idea sounds lovely Andy 🙂

I've got some of that too. I decided to try some out for elevenses today and it's much better than the cadbury's, but is still a little too sweet perhaps.

Nice though! 🙂

I couldn't drink it during the day, strictly a black coffee girl.

However it's great for a good night's sleep!

Donna x🙂

I've tried all sorts of Options-style low cal/fat chocolate drinks and they are all far too sweet. In fact I find most sugar substituted products too sickly to drink/eat.😡

I wish there was a totally sugar- and sugar substitute- free drink so that we can sweeten to taste.

If anyone knows of anything, please let me know 😛

I have that problem too and to date haven't found anything.:(
