Chiropodist, is it worth visiting one.

Hi, had my feet checked for the first time today by the nurse, everything was fine, but she did ask if I saw a chiropodist or looked after them myself. Is it worth seeing a chiropodist despite my feet being fine. Just wondered because she asked the question.
Thanks

My feet are fine and I have enough strength to cut my own toenails - so I don't use one.

We do need to look after our tootsies.

I am happy to do my own though 🙂

It depends on your mobility and flexibility. If you are able to look after your own feet and don't have any obvious problems then there is no need to visit a chiropodist in my opinion, but it is important to keep a close eye on them because if your nerves or circulation become compromised you can easily develop an infection or ulcer which can be difficult to heal.

I suffer with very dry, cracked skin on my hands and feet, so rasping the dry, thickened skin regularly and moisturizing is as important as trimming toe nails for me.

I have found in recent years that on my diabetic review with specialist nurse at gp surgery, they do check my feet however this was not always the case.
I personally have always seen a chiropodist just as an extra check really as I manage my foot care myself day to day.
