I'm doing really well having only been diagnosed T2 since May this year and really appreciate the advice etc on this site. Most mornings I start the day between 5.6 and 6.4 BG (with meds) and through experimentation i know i can tolerate small portions of noodles or brown rice without too much of a rise. Today my dad has asked for chinese takeaway for Fathers Day 🙄 He's 93 so that's what he will get ~ there begins my dilemma! Having read previous posts about chinese takeaway i'm not sure what to have or even if i should at all. I would never eat a whole portion anyway but I just have a 'falling off the wagon feeling'. I'm probably making this a bigger deal than it actually is but the internal battle i'm having is intense 😳 If I have a small portion of eg chicken chow mien and my BG rises is it simply that I now know and don't repeat?

You could maybe have a chicken dish that doesn’t have noodles in and then measure out the amount of noodles or egg fried rice that you would normally have. That’s an easy way to keep an eye on carbs - keep them separate.

Don’t let the diabetes ruin your time with your dad on this special day. XX

Thanks, i just had a chat with my hubby and i think that's what i'll do. even writing it all down helped make more sense to me. it's the internal battle of 'will i won't i' but this is not something i will do often so will choose wisely and enjoy.

Since being diagnosed my go-to dish is stir fried vegetables with cashew nuts. I tart it up with some home cooked chicken and a dollop of black bean sauce. No rice or noodles so I keep the carbs under control.

Ooo that sounds like a plan. I used to be veggie so the lack of protein won't matter. Thanks

I get the stir fried Chines veg too and then I have a few spoons of my partner's char sui or duck with ginger and spring onion and 2 dessert spoons of his fried rice to soak up any juice. Another option would be a foo young. I agree that it is easier to asses how many carbs you are having if you have a dish that doesn't include a significant and indeterminate proportion of carbs in it like Chow Mein or Special fried rice etc.

I went for stir fry veggies and one small spoon of boiled rice. Delicious, will check BG later, thanks for the tips
