Sweet treats such as Hobnobs and luxury cookies carry a hidden health risk that means they are more salty than popcorn or chicken nuggets.
As a result health campaigners warn they are fuelling a toxic daily overdose of salt, particularly among children.
Eating too much salt over a lifetime is blamed for raised blood pressure, an increased risk of stroke and thousands of early deaths each year.
Consensus Action of Salt and Health (CASH) argues that many people are eating salt without realising it through processed foods, such as biscuits.
A survey found that more than 110 popular biscuits were as salty, or more salty, than Butterkist Salted Popcorn, which comes in at 0.9g per 100g.
