Parents are being warned to look out for the symptoms of type 1 diabetes after a significant increase in the amount of children with the condition being diagnosed at Northampton General Hospital.

Latest figures show paediatric doctors at the hospital have seen 20 new diagnoses of type 1 diabetes, which is normally diagnosed in children, since the start of the year, compared with a normal average of less than 30 for the whole year.

Doctors at the hospital are also concerned that a number of the children have required intensive care after collapsing and coming into the hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Lets hope that GPs and practise nurses are also familiar with the symptoms and don't ignore the parents concerns!
