A DIABETES patient is furious after being refused an appointment with a doctor, despite being given the chance to see a specialist nurse.
After long-term diabetes sufferer Michelle Heather from Charlton Kings became seriously ill with the condition earlier this year, she decided to seek help from a diabetes consultant at Cheltenham General Hospital.
However, despite a referral from her GP, she was refused an appointment with a doctor and told to see a specialist diabetes nurse instead.
Miss Heather has been attending a diabetes clinic in Oxford since being diagnosed with Type 1 in 1971. But with her condition worsening she now wants to switch to Cheltenham.

I don't personally see anything wrong with seeing a DSN in the first instance, they are generally extremely knowledgeable people and often have better communication skills than consultants! 🙂 I wonder how this story got into the paper?

Lol after reading the lady's comments, she doesn't stand a cats chance in hell of getting a pump. DSN's deal with them not consultants. DSN's also see just about everything diabetes related so suspect they know more than most consultants regarding the practical side of diabetes life.

No - depends what her experience of DSNs is though Sue - perhaps they are all completely useless in Oxford?

(Said she completely tongue in cheek, as I know them to be very very good indeed !)

I wonder if she's only ever seen a practice 'diabetic' 🙂rolleyes🙂 nurse in the past and assumes the DSN will be the same?

Well I supposed not as she's attending a Diabetes Clinic at a hospital in Oxford currently.
