Hi,
Im Leah,IM 35 and been a Diabetic since i was 18 :(
Life has flown i now have 3 sons and on my 2nd husband. I went straight to using insulin, but now also take Metforim too.Mostly my Diabetes has been well controlled apart from just after having my 1st son i ended up in intensive care with Ketoasidosis.
Lately things have been so hectic with life, The Diabetes is getting me down.Im on Happy pills, blood pressure pills,Diabetic pills and 4 injections daily, not to mention the blood tests! i feel like a 75 year old not a 35 year old.so feeling really fed up.I even forgot to take my Insulin today and ended up with a sugar reading of 30!! 😱 Im due to go on to the D.A.F.Y.D.D Diabetes course but this has been cancelled till October.
Is anyone in the same sort of situation as me??
Thanx for Reading...🙂

Hi !! You sound as though you are a bit stressed 😱 Its good to get on here & let off some steem. Being T1 is very stressful at times & i know i dont give myself enuogh time for myself. Looking after 3 kids ? I am off on my motorbike in a couple of weeks to run with the bulls in pamplona. On the right side of the fence ! Hope you get sorted 😉

Hi Leah

Welcome to the forum!

You are not alone in struggling - we all go through periods if that from time to time. The psych part of D is often overlooked, unfortunately.

If forgetting injections is a problem, there are a few products that help you check whether you have or not.

Shame about the course being cancelled, sounds like something like that could give you a real recharge.

Rant away... It's good to let of steam from time to time 🙂

At that stage of my life a few years ago Leah, all that but 5 jabs a day plus Statins.

Wht changed me round? -joining a Diabetes forum (not this one cos it hadn't been invented) and learning to Carb Count - properly - even though I thought I'd been doing it since , err 1972 ....... it was never exactly right.

The thing that cracked it really apart from all the support and help I had with it off people who already were experts on the forum, was doing the BDEC course which had just been released online and we were asked to guinea pig it along with whoever else they could ask to from other sources if we'd be so kind as at the time they really needed feedback to ensure future funding - ie proof that the online course worked.

Be so kind? - we bit their hands off, those who hadn't managed to access a formal course. ( a few had done DAFNE)

The really curious thing was as soon as I'd managed to get a bit of sanity back into my life via these two vehicles - ie by extracting my own digit - I suddenly and quite out of the blue - got shedloads of real help and support from the hospital clinic I'd been slagging off for the last 10 years. New Consultant, new DSN's - new Carb Counting course - I didn't let on prior to the course that I'd done the BDEC one and to my delight it turned out that the real one locally was actually based on the teachings of BDEC ! Wonderful stuff all round.

Changed me life, saved me sanity and quite probably, not to put too fine a point on it, saved me driving my car into a wall.

Go for it Leah.

Hi Leah!

I'm in my 30s too, have a couple of kids & hubby to look after (so make that three kids lol) & flipping heck, doesn't life get hectic sometimes?! I'm not sure what the answer is (although my favourite option would be a lottery win, nanny & housekeeper lol)but I definitely find if I can make the mental space to get the diabetes right first, the other bits are easier to deal with. That said, DS has a tummy bug so I was cleaning puke & sleeping on the floor by his bed last night, so today my diabetes control has definitely been 'seat of the pants' style which is not good.

This forum is great - it's a good nudge to keep at it, everyone's friendly & there's loads of shared experience to sympathize with, learn from, etc etc. Welcome!

All the best,

Twitchy xx

hi and welcome, i am t1 too but only for ten years, running around after kids takes its toll... sounds like you need to squeeze in some "me" time somehow..... shame that course was postponed i went on course and it helped loads with my control
