Relationship to Diabetes

I have had 'flu and a chest infection so I had to go to the doctor last week. I had recently had a blood test for my thyroid problems and he said that he was doubling my thyroid medication. I now do not have any more appointments scheduled so do I just wait for my annual review next December? It seems to me that a lot could happen by then. Sorry it is a daft question, but I never went to the doctor until I had diabetes and I don't really know how it works. (He promised me some strips but I did not get them. :()

if you are worried about anything medically, you can go and see your doctor any time you like. Also pester him about test strips too. He promised them.

Sending you get well wishes HD and yes if the doc said he would give you strips then do follow that up specially if you need to test as some do although i'm a random tested but have my Diabetes under control

I would expect you would need to have your thyroid bloods checked again if he is doubling your dose of levothyroxine, any changes in mine I have been asked to see phlebotomist 8 weeks on. (takes about 8 weeks for the changes to be picked up on) Once stable it's 6 months then yearly.

Regarding the strips could u phone receptionist to leave him a message to "remind" him what he said.

🙂

I've always had my thyroid bloods checked again 8 weeks after if there have been changes and if it is stable I get the bloods done every 4 months so make sure you keep making the appointments, especially if your medication has been doubled.

Do chase the strips too if you were told you would get some.

Hope all goes well.

When were you diagnosed diabetic? If that's comparatively recent, it would be unusual to go 12 months between checks on that anyway?

Thanks for your replies. I was diagnosed in September and had my last blood test in December. The DN said we only see people once a year. I'll take your suggestion and book a blood test in about 8 weeks for the thyroid problem. I assume that I can just phone up and say that is what I would like to have. I'll also chase up the strips. Grateful for your patience in answering a daft question. I'll get the hang of this in a bit. 🙂

Yep , just phone and ask for appointment for thyroid bloods 🙂
