Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I'm not completely new but I've been missing for a while. So checking in and just saying hi 🙂

My diabetes isn't causing me any great problems and checks seem to be ok. I have an up and down relationship with my medication in that I just get a bee in my bonnet about taking meds or just forget 😱

In January I asked my GP to refer me to the local council leisure centre healthwise scheme and six weeks on I'm about to have my half way check up.

I know I've been told to lose weight and exercise more but I'm not convinced that I've lost much weight (and there is plenty to lose so it's a bit frustrating). So I am curious as to what the benefits are likely to be.

Hi Ladyengineer, very nice to hear from you again! 🙂 I hope that the results are better than are expecting - remember that, if exercising, you will be building muscle which is denser than fat so your weight may not appear to be going down as quickly as you might expect, but you will be much healthier in the long run 🙂

Keep us updated! 🙂

Hi Lady engineer as Northerner says muscle weighs more than fat - so that could well be why you haven't seen the drop you expected.

Even if you don't lose much weight exercise seems to help the body use insulin more efficiently which could benefit you. Plus exercise tends to make you feel better as it releases endorphins.

Hi Lady Engineer, I remember you, nice to hear from you again, that course that you are on , I spent 2 years on it,here its called excercise on prescription, like you I didn't shed one ounce of weight, but as has been said you build muscle mass, I thought at first it was a waste of time because I didn't lose weight, but then realised how much fitter I felt, also I was able to reduce my insulin intake by 25%, so the system has many more benefits than just losing weight.

John.

PS..I stopped gaining weight for the first time..so that was a success
