I was just checking my updated Amazon app, and it suggested several testing meters that looked interesting.
While the meters aren't quite as cheap as the SD Code Free, the strips are less than £15 - £20 I keep hearing about. The listings for strips include lancets as well, which £8 Code Free strips don't. I don't know if it's worth the £2. Still, if you use plenty of lancets it's worth a look.
And one of the meters looks like it's got a big display

I know people reuse lancets. In practice, how many lancets do people use, compared to strips? This will affect whether these deals are better in the long term over the Code Free.

I've used four lancets in the last eighteen months but that's probably a bit on the frugal side.😱

I have probably used about 10 lancets since I was diagnosed in February and at least half of those were on the first couple of days when I followed the nurse's instructions to a T. Since then I only change the lancet if I get a spate where I am struggling to get blood..... I have pretty tough skin. I get thorns and stuff in them when I am working outside and bee stings when I am beekeeping and none of those are sterile and probably pose a much greater risk than reusing my lancets, so I really can't see the point. I certainly haven't experienced any problems with using the lancets multiple times and I am the same with my insulin needles, although I change them more frequently at maybe once a fortnight.

The term my last ex husband used was profligate

I’ve been wasteful this year and used 6.

That's interesting. Everything I've read about testing says you should use a new Lancet every time as it's only sterile the first time it's used.

There’s a lot of difference between what we should do and what we actually do!
Yes, the official advice is to change it every time, but ain't nobody got time for that!
I have one of those lancet drums with six lancets in, and I tend to twist them round to a fresh one fairly frequently until I get to the last one, then the faff of getting a new one out and changing it means I tend to go on using the last one for longer.

Agree. Bit like driving, I suppose. Who obeys the Highway Code all the time?

I am deeply shocked that anyone should ever think one of us doesn't sometimes.

I had hoped no-one else knew ……..

Mind you I do wish the words in the HC that say 'consideration for other road users' was heeded a lot more often than it is.
