Hi,

Went to pick up my Met and I had a chat with the Pharmacist and I asked him about the role Metformin plays in diabetes... He wanted to know my blood sugar levels and I told him they are consistently between mid 5s and 6s. His response is that the Metformin is doing very little and it must be your diet and lifestyle that is producing those numbers🙂. I then wanted to know what is the point of Metformin, quite correctly he did say it is different for everyone but it is doing very little for me...I suppose this is the time when I have to play it cool and keep to the diet which now includes a slice of toast😛 (all that I ever had anyway) usually later in the day. As others say Upwards and Onwards (only not blood sugar levels!).No carb creep for me...

Was he implying your figures were good or bad, high or low?
I am sure there are many here, myself included who would give their eye teeth to see figures in fives and sixes rather than sixes and sevens.😳

I didn't really know where the conversation was going. It was all so odd and rather confusing.😱

I've decided to cut my Met back to 1x1000mg from 2x1000mg. I think it's a great drug but I doubt that it's doing very much for my BG now & I'll probably get much the same non-BG benefits from a lower dose. See how it goes - it's not an easy experiment, given that the reduction in Met in my bod will be gradual and so any BG effects hard to judge.

I've also decided to drop my BP meds (Amlodipine) altogether, subject to continued monitoring. I haven't been taking it for over week and my BP remains consistently sub 120/80.

Obviously I'll go over this with doc when I see him in a few weeks, but doubt he'll have any issues if numbers look OK.

Also: Having joined Team Vape, I find that in my neck of the woods it's actually illegal if I do it with nicotine & without a prescription! This is just so lame, in so many ways - good luck enforcing it, being one of them. I guess I'll see if he'll give me one, when I see him. Until then ...

Don't know about the other meds. But your experiment with Met. sounds interesting. Good luck.

Please tell me how you did this and the active lifestyle you worked on?

I was diagnosed in July 2018, given a prescription for Metformin and that was that. So I kept a food diary and self tested until I knew what foods and meals worked.I only test every now and then just to see that all is ok. My blood sugar levels were never that high. I didn't nèed to lose weight. But I am one of these people who can't sit still for long. I walk a lot and that is it really. The proof will be when I have my HbA1c test in Feb. I have to add that the only advice I was given was NOT to test. Glad I ignored it!😛
