A pupil lobbied MPs in Parliament last week in an effort to raise awareness of his own potentially life-threatening condition.
John Hayward, who lives in Chrishall, has type 1 diabetes and last Wednesday was chosen by charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to visit Westminster and talk to MPs about the need for increased funding into the illness.
The 10-year-old was just 3 when he was diagnosed with the condition ? which causes the body?s immune system to attack insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Doctors told his parents they had been lucky to spot symptoms while he was so young, as left untreated, sufferers can slip into a coma.
