Freemasons in Gloucestershire have given £170,000 to charitable causes this year and they are keen for everyone to know about it.
Some people regard the organisation as a secretive one that exists purely for the benefit of its members.
But the freemasons say this is simply not true and their payments to various organisations in the county proves it.
In a letter to the brethren of the Province of Gloucestershire, Provincial Grand Master for Gloucestershire Tim Henderson-Ross said: "This demonstrates that our ideals are not just abstract ideas but are the drivers for taking action to help people who are not as fortunate as ourselves."
