ANOTHER popular social group has come to an end with the closure of Chard Diabetic Social Club.

The group formed in 1992 when Angie Glanvill, of Springmead Surgery, and Marion Baker, at Essex House, set up a forum for the town?s diabetics to help raise funds for what is now Diabetes UK, and they met at Chard Hospital for educational talks.

Over the years the society?s social side grew with former president and twice Chard Mayor Win Chubb overseeing moves to the Old Common Room in Bradfield Way and then St Gildas Retirement Home off Millfield.

Unfortunately, as committee members grew older they found it increasingly difficult to continue running the society, which met monhtly from September to June.
