I don't have diabetes but will be around someone who does, and want to be totally knowledgable about how the testing equipment works. Could anyone tell me - once the six needles are used on a multiclix pricker, will it be unusable until a new barrel is inserted, or do I have to remember to check how many stripes are left to remind me to change to a new barrel?

Welcome to the forum, Papa1.

It's very difficult to advise without knowing which model of pricker is used. Best plan is to ask the person you "will be around" to practice testing their blood IF they think it's necessary. Many people with diabetes, like me, have never needed anyone else to ever test their blood glucose.

Hi Papa1 and welcome to the forum. You can carry on using the device on the 6th needle indefinately, as it's down to personal preference how often you use an individual lancet. Some people only use each one once, others (like me) use them more than once. Perhaps ask the person who you are looking after what they usually do?

Yup, just keep retracting them by pressing the button on the end in, once you turn the end bit, the first one (No 6) will change to No 5 in the little window, then 4 and so on.

To change the cartridge, you pull the cover off at the business end, pull the cartridge out, chuck it in the normal household rubbish (no exposed sharp bits so doesn't have to go in a Sharps container) and bung a new cartidge on, re-attach the end cap - it's shaped so will only go on one way - and off you go again.

FWIW I normally do at least 6 tests a day, and normally use the same lancet all day - or longer. I have the depth setting on 1.5.
