I had an appointment with my hospital lipid consultant booked for 2nd April ,but because of the current situation, he rang me to have a phone consultation. Yesterday morning, I had a blood test as he requested, and amazingly, at 2pm he rang to say that he had looked at the results, and he was very concerned with my kidney function whic has deteriorated since the last time I saw him. He wasn't too worried about my diabetes( last HBA1C was 54, but he told me to stop taking Glucophage and Ramipiril with immediate effect. I know I have CKD Stage 3 but have no symptoms so it was a bit of surprise to hear my creatinine level was 102! He wants me to have another blood test in about 6 weeks, and dependent on the results,he may want me to see a kidney specialist. Every silver lining has a cloud!

Sorry to hear that you have had this news .
I was taken off Metformin (glucophage) when my kidney function reached stage 3. With Ramipril it can either help our kidneys or affect them , fortunately mine like them, it seems that yours may not.
I hope the medication changes work well and your kidney function improves .

Their are plenty of other diabetes medications they can use that may well suit you better, have they not prescribed another medication instead , I hope they have.
TBH I prefer to keep my Hb1ac below 58 but it’s easier for me as I now have the help of insulin, I reduced my carbohydrate intake when first diagnosed 25 yrs ago.

Thank for the reply.

Sorry to hear this @Edgar

I suppose thats the challenge with no symptoms - you can’t tell when things are changing!

Hope dropping those meds helps your kidneys retain their current function and your stage of CKD remains the same.

Are they offering you anything else to manage your BP? Or is that doing fairly well at the mo?
