Sorry I never got back to you all about my CGMs but my laptop died just after I got my results. Anyway no traditional DP but they did find that my blood sugars started to rise from 4am in the morning like DP but I never went totally into hypo in the night.

One shocking thing they did find was that I was hypoing for 4 hours one evening according to the CGMs but my meter was giving me readings of 6mmol but I was feeling ill. So they are not worried about it as I was following what me meter thinks. The DSN I saw said I can't really go for a pump with my HbA1c at 6.3 but she is going to ask due to the state of my injection sites and also because I can have runs of hypos which are not disabling because I catch them, plus I work very random shifts and I think they are going to look at my radio work as shift as well, finishing at Midnight plus. So not a total lost cause.

I found the CGMs quite useful and wondered about buying one meself what do they cost and how would I go about buying one with a reader thingie?

Interesting on the CGM Marc - and don;t give up on the pump. I had an A1c of 6.3 but got pump funding due to all the things I didn't do because I was afraid of missing hypo warning signs. Not that I've had a bad hypo ever really, and certainly not one that needed any third-party help for many years... but the threat always loomed and it did have a affect on how I felt able to live - for my clinic that meant I met the criteria.

Self funding CGMs is very expensive unfortunately from what I remember.

I think the devices themselves are ?2k ish and for full time sensors you are probably talking another ?2-4k a year. There's also a part (transmitter?) which only lasts a couple of years before it needs replacing. 🙄

There's a thread on here somewhere with some more detailed figures, though new sensors etc have been released since.

Perhaps someone who actually does self fund could give you a more accurate picture, but when I looked into it a few years ago the ballpark numbers were enough to make me realise it was a bit of a non-starter for me.

My Decom7plus cost approximately ?1100 for the receiver and transmitter - I think that it needs to be replaced approximately every 12 months. The sensors cost ?62.50 each - officially they last a week but I can often get mine to last for two weeks - as long as I use extra adhesive tape - it is usually the tape failing that leads to me having to replace the sensor. The CGM is exepnsive, and we are trying to cut back on outgoings because of buying a new house - but having said that my OH and I have agreed that as long as we can afford the sensors we will keep buying them. I stopped using it for a few weeks in January and it was the worse thing that I could have done - my average BGs crept up to nearly 12 - since I put the CGM back on they have come back down to an average of 9 and are still faling.
