Just to say that it is fantastic!!! It has stayed within a fairly good range most of the time e.g. CGM says 7 finger prick says 8. Sometimes they completely agree and sometimes they are a little different - worst difference was when CGM said 11.3 and fingerprick said 14.8 - you definitely do have to keep doing the fingerprick tests to double-check readings if you feel that they out of your preferred range. It showed that my BG felll to 4.5 whilst sleeping but then rose to around 8.8 for the rest of the night. I set it so that it would have beeped me if it had gone below 4.4 or above 10.0 It has successfully warned me of two low sugars in the past 24 hours - including one when I was at work before I had any hypo symptoms........in a nutshell it is awesome. I can set it to alert me if my BG is going to a certain level these can be set at one of the following 6.7, 7.8. 8.9, 10.0 etc up to 22.2. Similarly there are settings for alerting you if it goes below a certain level. There are also alerts that you can set for if it is going up too fast or down too fast. You can also key in when you've had insulin (and the amount), carbohydrates (and the amount), exercise (duration and intensity) etc etc et but it is all very, very easy to use!!:D The only problem I've had is when I overcompensated for a hypo and it went too high (14.3). It is going to be so much easier for to keep my BGs between 5-10 but it does take a lot of self discipline with regard to having corrections etc as necessarly. I'm loving it!!!

Great stuff Amanda, long may it continue x

Thanks for the article Cherrypie. Based on my experience I think it's written rather negatively because, on the Dexcom, you can turn off the "beeps" whenever you want. So if you want a few hours of not thinking about it you can turn them off until you need them again........🙂

I am surprised that it is really quire accurate, I didn't think they could be used for anything other than spotting highs and lows.........

Great news.................:D

Great news AJ,
fingers crossed it will make things so much easier for you in the long run.

Hi AJLang,

I couldnt agree more - sensors really do change the way you can manage diabetes. I dont know many people/children who havent got on with sensors after using them.🙂Bev

Amanda, I'm delighted it's working so well for you..and even more so to 'hear' you sounding so positive. 🙂 XXXXX

Thanks everyone for your lovely replies. As some of you may know I usually have high BGs in the morning due to gastroparesis and as the BGs are unpredictable can't alter my levemir anymore than I have. Well no more night problems:D Went to bed at 9pm BG of 8. Around 11.30 CGM beeped me to say that I was 10. Had 2 units of insulin. 230pm CGM beeped me again to say that it was 10 again so had another 3 units of insulin. Woke up to 5.2 and didn't go above 10 all night. That is amazing for me:D

That is fantastic Amanda! I think that, with these kind of results it is certainly worth speaking to your consultant and pressing for some funding for the sensors - you are proving how beneficial it is within a few short days, so have a very strong argument. 🙂 Long may the good news continue! 🙂

Brilliant! And inspite of being disturbed in the night you'll feel better for that nice reading this morning. I agree with Alan, if this keeps up you'll have more han enough ammo to fight for funding. XXXXX

Great news Amanda , glad everything going well for you :D

:Thank you Northerner and Blythespirit 🙂 I'm not as hopeful as you about getting funding...........they might see it as a reason to ration my testing strips😱 and I definitely still need to do quite a few finger prick tests to double-check thinks. I've introduced the CGM to as many people as possible as work so that they know to expect the vibrating and beeping:D

Very considerate of you! Reminds me of the time I had a 24 hour BP meter fitted and had to travel home via 2 buses. The meter was set to take a BP reading every 30 mins and sure enough buzzed and beeped loudly whilst I was on the bus. A young boy sitting on the seat opposite looked wide eyed at me and then said, 'Mummy, Mummy! That lady's buzzing!!' XXXXX

sorry Jennywren thank you to you as well........I'm sorry that I didn't notice your message straightaway

Hi AJLang,

All sounds good to me.🙂Bev

Fantastic! Nice to see that the stuff is working and being implemented to further improve your control.

Sounds like it's the high definition version of blood glucose monitoring. Hope there are more positives to come!
