Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I gave up burgers and sausages, and I buy the vegetarian varieties instead. I find them much tastier. Meat-wise, it is mainly chicken nowadays. Although I like rye bread, it's really only good like a snack - not really filling, especially in the morning. I have been following (to some extent) some ideas I got from a book about reversing type 2. I am not sure if I am allowed to say the name (advertising) nor am I encouraging anyone else to do as I am, this is just my opinion. So far not too bad, it got some of the weight off - YIPEE!🙂

I moved this so it won't get lost in the General flood.

You mentioned reversing Type 2. Sadly, that isn't medically possible at the moment, but diet can play an important part in getting 'control' of the dreaded Big D and we're always interested in reading about our member's efforts. l've given up eating much red meat myself as well as drastically reducing that amount of starchy foods I eat (spuds, pasta, rice and white bread especially). I bulk up meals with lots of frlresh veg, particularly green veg. I find it makes a difference.

OK - the reason I said that is because of that big advert push by a certain chemist stating that on TV, they even got an actress to state this. The book I got also claims that cutting out meat, fish, diary and wheat in general will produce much better results. With regards to reversing - Gospel truth - The bariatric doctor told me if i had the gastric op it would reverse it!

I've seen that ad too and it has the steam coming out of my ears, it's so misleading. I can't understand why a surgeon would say such a thing either because you really can't yet reverse diabetes, only control it. Even with the surgery you'd still be a diabetic, but if you're lucky you wouldn't need any medications. The day may come, and I hope it's soon, when they find a cure but that day isn't here yet.

I agree with Alison, I think the word 'reverse' is very misleading as it implies that you will be cured and returned to how you were before you were diagnosed.

What I have realised is that if I do manage to get my medication reduced, this in NO WAY is a green light to go back to my old eating habits. A lot of that caused me to be diagnosed with diabetes. I may have mentioned it before but I hate saying I am a diabetic! I am not, diabetes is a condition an illness, I am NOT an illness. I am a person who has been diagnosed with the condition called diabetes. I use that same methodology with regards to when I get a depressive episode. There is more to me than just my medical conditions.

Absolutely! 🙂
