As I am new to low carb eating I was wondering if any cereals are any good. I am trying to start eating low carb and also low sugar.

Cereals aren't very low carb at all, how low carb are you looking to go?, also apart from porridge or Weetabix there aren't very many that are low sugar, you could try no added sugar muesli's etc but again it depends on the amount of carbs you are willing to have x

I'm only just starting to go low carb as my sugar levels are constantly high. I am not targeting a certain number of carbs just trying to cut them out when I can

I wouldn't suggest cereals then as there are no real low carb options 1 Weetabix has 13g carbs but that's not going to be much of a breakfast really x

How about something like scrambled eggs for breakfast, they are low carb and don't take long to prepare and cook. Or some berries (not grapes) in yogurt.

At the moment I have yogurt and apple mixed together but another suggestion given me here was berries instead of apple. Just looking for a little variety.

Thanks for your comments much appreciated

Yeah, cereals are a bit of a no go area if you're low carbing. Porridge might be OK, but some can tolerate it & some cant.

Some can tolerate weetsbix or can't too I was one of the ones that couldn't.
You'll have to test to see what spikes you and doesn't. Pre meal then 2 hours later

I'm trying to keep carbs. low, so I've resigned myself to cutting out cereals. Mind you, I'll treat myself to the odd plate when it takes my fancy. To be honest, however, it's quite easy to have a filling breakfast without worrying about carbs.

I've failed to find any cereals that don't spike my BG, though some folk do seem to get away with some types. I'm now on bacon & eggs or omlettes with various fillings.

In his book, Dopamine Diet, ( low- carb. - stay happy )Tom Kerridge gives some good suggestions for varied, tasty breakfasts.

Eggs are low carb - boiled scrambled poached - are all low carb - some folks here fry eggs in butter - I prefer to fry eggs or any other food in rapeseed oil - boiled eggs on their own or with bergen S&L toasted soldiers 🙄a favourite of mine x

If I fry eggs I use a non stick pan and use spray oil.

Another with the rapeseed Oil for frying.

Most cereals are high carb though some folk seem to tolerate some cereals better than others do.
Here's the CoFiD data on cereals: (It's about as accurate as you'll get)

Thanks for that Dave - interestingly one shredded wheat is the only cereal that doesn't cause me to spike but two will, with a small rise - but I rarely have cereal these days - they don't fill me enough! x

When I was first diagnosed I tried most of them thinking they'd be good for me, but all that I tried spiked my BG :( Now on a fry-up or omelette/scambled eggs for breakfast :D

I was the same when dx - tried them all over a period of time -now prefer eggs in any form with bacon or bergen toast for breakfast or should I say brunch as I can't face eating first thing.

I'd suggesting self testing so you can see the effect on your BG of any food. I used to have Aldi own brand Shredded Wheat. That doesn't have any sugar. However it took my BG from 6.1 to 11.7. I'm now on boiled eggs. Or sometimes a cooked breakfast.
