Does anyone have any experience of using this pump? Looking through old threads it seems a couple of people on here trialled it (or an earlier version of it) 4 or 5 years ago @heasandford ? but I was wondering if anyone is actually using it now and what they think of it.

It's one of the pump choices that have been offered to me and I quite like the idea of a patch pump (similar to the Omnipod) which can be also be used with a cannula. A patch pump is not much good stuck on your arse or your thigh either, really. The pump itself appears to be tiny.

PS I don't do facebook so if there a fb group it won't be much good to me.

With a Medtronic you can get different cannula lengths. From 60mm to very long. You chose when you order.

I got the Cell Novo in December. It's my first pump so can't compare but it's been amazing.

Takes a bit of work to get all the levels right but it's changed my life. It's really simple to use too, no fiddly bits like the other ones I trialled.

It's pretty small and I don't even notice I'm wearing it most of the time.

It has to work with a cannula though, so it's technically not a patch pump. They described it to me as an inbetweener - as the tubing is tiny. I've uploaded a pic to show you mine.

I'd say go for it!

Thanks for the reply. 🙂 I'm going in a week on Monday to see the DSN's and reps. I like the idea of the activity sensor - does that work well? Not sure about the leopard print though. 😉:D

@Matt Cycle ha ha, the leopard print is optional!

To be honest, I don't really look at the tracker, bit it basically tracks your activity throughout the day.

I was told a new more advanced handset will be coming out this year and they're improving the tracker with that.

It seems the most up to date technology wise which is another reason I chose it.

And the customer service is great if you have any issues. I've had a couple of issues but all resolved quickly.

Where abouts do you live? If you're in the north you'll have Jo as a rep, who's really good and very knowledgeable. In fact I called the support line the other day and she answered so they're all very hands on!

My choices as well as the Cellnovo are the 640G, Animas Vibe and the two Accuchek ones. I was thinking the 640G or Animas but the more I look into the Cellnovo the more I like the look of it. The fact it is so small with all controls being from the handset. Although as you say it is not strictly a patch pump can it be used with different lengths of tubing?

I guess I'm in the Midlands but on the fringes of the North so not sure where rep will be from.

Humm...I'm not sure. The rep will be able to tell you. I never asked that as I really didn't like the long tubing on the other one I tested. Made me feel too medical!

good luck and let me know if you have any more questions! @Matt Cycle

Thanks for all this. I can't see there being any CGM compatibility?

Medtronic have cannulas from 45mm to 110mm & ones in varying sizes in between.

No, it's not linked to any CGM. I use the libre (self funded).

To be honest, I don't know much about the other ones - I was basically told they're very, very expensive and less likely to be funded by my NHS trust so didn't ask any more questions! If they bring out one with no tubing and a CGM I'd be very interested though!

I use the Libre occasionally as well when I can afford the sensors. I think the 640G is compatible with the Dexcom and one of the reasons I'm getting the pump is I have virtually no hypo awareness. The NHS under certain circumstances will fund CGM's so CGM compatibility with a pump would be a consideration for me.

Thanks for your help and insight. Lots to consider. I'll keep reading and see what's what in just over a week.

Well I'd only had my first pump 5 minutes when I saw the Cellnovo and it was still under development. I have no need of CGMS clinically so that doesn't bother me. However I'd want to be sure that things like TBRs and extended/multi-wave boluses and those sorts of things are easy enough to do on them. They are tiny in comparison to others, really light.

Whatever - you need long enough tubing to get from wherever on your body you'll stick a cannula, and wherever the pump's going to live while you're wearing it. When I have a cannula on the RHS I use my left hand pocket. Depending on the depth of the pockets on different garments, when I sit down the pump in the pocket can shove up to cannulas in my tum or leg when they're on the same side. I only discovered that by doing it a few times and it's, Owww! applying pressure from a solid object onto the side of the superstructure of a cannula - even with the padding from clothing separating them. Mine are 60cm - the Combo also does 40cm, but they are too short to do that with - and I'm not a huge person - 5ft 3 and size 12. Fink you're a bit bigger than me, Matt!

That's what I love about the cellnovo - you don't have to worry about the tubing as its so tiny- we're talking a couple of cm so no snagging - and the pump itself sticks to your skin with Velcro. That's why that say it's a bit like a patch pump. The patches come with it. So no tucking it into your pump holder or bra. You just stick it on wherever ( I use my belly and top of my legs, but you can use the top of your arm too) and forget about it for 3 days. It's waterproof so I very rarely take it off - in fact, can't remember the last time I did apart from when changing it.

You get 2, so recharge the other one when you're not wearing it, which makes it more environmentally friendly than the pods.

It's all controlled from the handset, which works like an app on your phone - touch screen, really simple to use.

3 types of Multi wave are offered every time you bolus, and you can set up temporary basals in 2 touches (the handset is touchscreen - not as responsive as a modern phone, but still good) for x% increase/decrease over x amount of time.

I sound like I work for them, ha! I promise I don't!! I just love it but it's what's right for the individual!

Like I said, I haven't properly used any other pump long term so can't do a like for like comparison but It was the only one out of the 3 I trialled that felt was up to date!

In other news, I'm up treating a hypo, urgh!

Think I may have written something about Cellnovo - but with current memory, who knows??
Seriously though, they didn't end up supplying them to my pump clinic so I didn't have an option, but I love some of the features. My main issue is with not having to fish a pump out from under clothes - I wear dresses or skirts without pockets!! - I still don't understand how others manage, everyone is different (standard Diabetes comment, eh?!) So the Accuchek Combo with the remote meter works well enough for me, hung off my bra, along with a Libre. I seem to remember that the Cellnovo also stuck to your body? I am jealous, it was my pump of choice.

Ha, yes I'm 6' 1". Not much weight wise though at 66kg so it wouldn't really have to stretch around my middle. :D

The thread was quite a while ago. 😉

I'll wait till I see them all in the flesh next week, ask questions and take it from there.

Well the question I asked the rep the time I saw it was 'but - does it do the ironing?'

She said they hadn't thought of incorporating that, and we both decided that if it did, it would be the most popular pump available !
