The Celebrity Mastermind shows drive me mad! The general knowledge questions wouldn’t tax a 6 year old! I’m with you @Robin Only Connect regardless of the season just totally flummoxes me!

Anyone watch the first Royal Institute Christmas lecture last night. It was the Van Tullekan Twins and it was all about the gut, digestion etc. it was very interesting and as it’s obviously for children much more my level of understanding. Looking forward to the next one tonight at 9pm BBC 4.

Ooh, I forgot about the lecture, must catch up!

Tonight is the second semi-final of Christmas University Challenge. The last few nights there has been a contestant that graduated before me which makes me feel less ancient than those who graduated 20 or 30 years ago! I like the format better than Celebrity Mastermind which does not look for a series champion but gives out a trophy every evening (trophies for the boys and girls?).

I loved the parody in 'The Young Ones' of University Challenge

Oh yes! I’d forgotten that - I thought that sounded good. I’ll check it out on cach-up 🙂

I am hoping to catch up on the Christmas lectures on iplayer tomorrow as it sounds very interesting.

Whereas we are finding the Christmas Only Connect questions are just as hard as ever, for the past teams that have been invited back.
Just caught up with the sounds special - I think sometimes they push the boundaries too far.

Last week University Challenge returned to its usual self. However, I was disappointed to see Celebrity Mastermind is still ongoing. It is getting better a bit boring as a) most celebrities are unknown to me and b) some of the general knowledge questions are so dumbed down I am surprised Clive keeps a straight face; 🙂

Yes, I was annoyed it was still “Celebrity” Mastermind. I was embarrassed for one guy whose specialist subject was the life and books of Julia Donaldson. I got more points than him and I haven’t studied her, I’m just a parent and grandparent who’s read the books over and over and over! He then went on to get two points in the general knowledge, you could tell he was mortified. Hopefully back to normal next week.

I had to knock it off as Sean Walsh was absolutely getting on my very last nerve!

And he won despite all his messing around! I was puzzled by Romy Gill's lack of knowledge on her specialist subject and general knowledge or wondered if it was just nerves or if she has little interest away outside cooking, and family and friends?
