Hi CDB, welcome to the forum 🙂 What sort of levels are you seeing, and what medication are you currently on? One thing I would say about insulin is, don't see it as a threat. It's not a mark of failure and in many ways you may find it much easier and more successful in bringing your levels under control. What are your major concerns about it?

I didn't have any choice about insulin when I was diagnosed, so I've always just accepted that I need it, but can understand that it is often perceived as some sort of 'last chance saloon' if you have been able to manage on oral medications for some time. However, all the oral medications work by modifying some aspect of how your body works - stopping it from doing some things, or forcing it to do other things. Insulin, on the other hand, is simply a replacement for something that your body no longer produces, and it works just like your own would do (apart from the fact you need to control doses and timing yourself, instead of your pancreas!)

I wasn't aware of the trial you mention, what does it entail?

Hello CDB and welcome to the forum 🙂

Hi CDB...its very difficult to comment on your exact circumstances without knowing a little more about you...can you tell us when you were diagnosed...how your blood sugars have changed during that time...I am assuming that so far you have managed on oral anti-diabetic medication for an extended period...what was that and how long has that been for....(which you infer is now ineffective in controlling your diabetes)...now you may have to consider insulin...I understand your concerns in respect of that... have your health care team spoken about the possibilities of avoiding the addition of insulin...have you been given a time frame to try to reduce your blood sugars without it?...it is difficult to answer so many questions...if you'd rather not...perfectly understandable...however...if you could provide that information it would might help members offer the right advice/support & guidance...some of our members may have been in a similar position...what are your current levels...when did you have what you would consider reasonable control of your BG...how did you achieve that...keep us updated and if you are able to answer those questions...it would help a great deal to address your concerns.
