Also ferrets, which I guess is consistent with them being used in the animal studies towards a vaccine at the moment.

Not dogs, pigs, chickens or ducks, however, so they can all look after themselves.
 
Cats get blamed for a lot of things, including spreading TB amongst cattle.
 
If you stroke your pets, wash your hands afterwards. Transmission of the virus particles is more likely to simply be from their bodies than because they are infected themselves.
 
And, of course, they constantly clean themselves by licking. Not a good thing for humans to do either.
