Good evening

Has been ages since being on here - but need some well earned support.

My control was good up until a few years back... and now have severe PDR and am visually impaired as well as high hba1c.. I am looking for help to find info on treatment guidelines for PDR as well as support/info on weight loss.

Hi Catareta, nice to hear from you again. Very sorry to hear about the retinopathy though :( I can't offer much in the way of information about it I'm afraid, but hopefully others will be able to.

What went wrong with your control, was it anything in particular that you are aware of?

@Northerner - Re control.. Lots of issues including bereavement, moving hospitals and poor care. Keep fobbing me off with metfartin - as am overweight..but cannot tolerate it...

Sorry to hear this. Good that you have come looking for support though - you've come to the right place 🙂 We've got a lot of people who are actively losing weight, so have a browse through the Weight Loss section and ask any questions you may have.

Have you tried the slow-release metformin at all? I would start by making a diary of my carb consumption each day (and calories too, since you are looking to lose weight), plus insulin doses and before and after meter readings, so you can build up a picture of where you are now. Then you can start looking at areas for improvement - small steps, tackling one thing at a time, rather than being overwhelmed by everything. To use the philosophy of Dave Brailsford, Olympic cycling coach, it's the 'aggregation of marginal gains' that leads to success - all those small steps you take will add up over time and hopefully you will acheive your goals 🙂

I'll move these posts out into their own thread so that others don't miss it 🙂
