Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience with dawn phenomenon being resolved by taking casein protein overnight?
This is a slow release protein, which I've now been taking for 3 nights, and each morning my fasting BG is always lower. (I'm using as a test the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Casein in the Chocolate flavour - if nothing else, this stuff is DELICIOUS so it classifies in my book as a chocolate pudding replacement.. for every 30g serving it gives 24g protein, and 1.5g carbs)
So eg. if it's 6mmol/l the night before, without casein it would rise to 8.5/9mmol/l
but with casein, I've experienced my morning numbers to be stable in the 6 region...
This also makes sense given that it drip feeds protein into the body over night, at a slower rate of 4-8 hours for full digestion.
However, certain links of casein being destroyed by the immune system which sees the protein molecule as something else has made me a bit worried - apparently over time it raises insulin resistence?
Can anyone of a more scientific mind perhaps be able to interpret/provide a bit more insight?
