Good evening all.

I am after some advice/recommendations on the above please. I am travelling for a holiday and have an 8 hour flight. I need to take my insulin pens and testing kit with me and so need a carry case/kit bag to take them in but there are so many available that i would like advice/recommendations from those that already have one.

Many thanks.

Paul

My advice would be that you do not need a dedicated diabetes kit bag.
For holidays to hot countries, I take Frio wallets to keep my insulin cool and then use something like a normal backpack for hand luggage with my diabetes kit in.

i'd use a backpack for a flight, you'll want to carry all your diabetes supplies for your holiday on the plane with you, insulin can't go in the hold.

Hi @Paul Goldie I bought one from a Diabetes U.K. catalogue a few years ago. It’s useful for flying as we are often allowed to take an extra meds bag. The one I got has a special mesh pocket on the outside suitable for. Frio wallet. It then has a zip and some separate compartments inside. I didn’t put every single diabetes thing in there but I put my insulin and my pump sets and cannulas and some test strips, etc. This meant my carry-on rucksack had plenty of room left for things ‘normal’ people take on planes like books and iPad, etc, rather than being full of medical stuff.

I’ll see if DUK still sell my bag and link here if so.

I can’t find it in the catalogue @Paul Goldie :( I’ve just looked at it and it’s actually a Frio travel bag so you could look on the Frio site. I imagine mine’s an old model as I can’t see it there but they do have others like the Frio Vitesse. I liked the fact it held a Frio wallet and was a handbag sized bag rather than just a small case.

Edited to add that mine cost £20 approx but was well worth it for taking as an extra med bag on flights.

I just use my regular carry-on bag for my diabetes gubbins. If I’m having an extra bag it will most likely be for a laptop.

This page has some links to airlines with their policies for allowing additional luggage for medical conditions

And remember to estimate how much you will need in terms of supplies and to take at least 1.5 times as much, or better still double. You really don’t want to run out while away!
