Carpal Tunnel

Hi

What are your experiences with carpal tunnel?
I've had it in both wrists for years. After waiting 2.5 years to be seen, the consultant added me to the surgery wait list for my right wrist but there is no plan for treatment for my left. Six months have passed since then and I'm worried they've forgotten me! However, I'm now pregnant so not sure if they can treat me or not anyway. Should I contact them to ask, or leave them to it? As I know they're swamped!

My joints got loads better after my 2nd pregnancy, so you can live in hope!

I guess you may as well stay on the list, if your name came up you can delay it but better to stay on than ask to be taken off and start again after the baby arrives.

Those sorts of surgeries do seem to have been rather caught up in the healthcare backlogs and chaos of recent years don’t they. :(

Were you given an idea of the waiting list time when you were put on it. I gather the wait for some things like hips can be years rather than months 😳

I have it in both wrists, confirmed by nerve studies. My right wrist is a nightmare though whilst my left is fine. Apparently it’s not bad enough for surgery so I’ve just had to learn to do everything left handed and switch hands throughout the day. I even play my musical instruments ambidextrously now, which took my brain some working out to begin with.

I was told six weeks initially but it's coming up to three years now :(
I understand the NHS is very stretched. Hopefully something can be done soonish though.
