Four out of five hospitals inspected by regulators are not safe, according to new annual ratings of NHS trusts which watchdogs have branded “shocking”.

The report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the inspectorate for health and social care, details findings from the first year of a new style of inspections, which will give all hospitals, care homes and GP surgeries Ofsted-style ratings.

The regulator said “the public is being failed” by the numerous hospitals, care homes, and doctors surgeries unable to meet basic standards, in a report which vows to call time on an “unacceptable lottery” in care.

Inspections of 82 hospitals found 65 were inadequate or required improvement, when it came to safety.

Regulators said they found “widespread evidence” of staff shortages affecting patients, with call bells left unanswered for long periods, and the elderly left to suffer falls because staff did not come to their aid.

I wonder why? :(
