There is all this talk about cutting down on carbs but what else apart from veg can i eat to fill me, i dont like veg very much, i have cut down a little on my bread intake but thats it

Meat, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts, berries, seeds, and all veggies with butter and black pepper on mmmmm 🙂

The Tom Kerridge book Dopamine Diet, which is mentioned regularly on this forum, has lots of recipes and information for low carb eating. For example, using alternative ingredients ( some not cheap, admittedly) you can make soda bread, oatcake type biscuits, flatbreads etc. He also gives suggestions for tasty low carb breakfasts. Being retired and, sadly, widowed, I have time to enjoy mucking about in the kitchen but appreciate that others may not. With a bit of research and planning you can make meals which are nutritious, tasty and filling.

I've got that Kerridge book, and also two diabetic recipe books by (the actor) Robin Ellis, who is type 2 and has developed very tasty meals, and who uses a lot of herbs and spices, not to mention wine...🙂

I'm in a similar position to you, what I have found really helpful is rather than cutting things out completely to simply reduce the portion size 🙂

I have Tom Kerridge's book and have recently made his almond bread which is delicious. Also I have Davina McCall's low sugar cookbook, Robin Ellis's, Dr David Cavan's and Michael Moseley's. I was diagnosed pre-diabetic last year with 42 and then 43 hba1c. My last two were 33 and, yesterday, 35. I also look on the recipes here and never realised there were so many interesting recipes out there. I enjoy my food more now than I did before. I will just have to go easy on the hot cross buns over Easter.

Have you tested to see what you can and cannot tolerate. I can eat small amounts of couscous and rice, but bread and pasta make my bg rise stupidly. I had a small amount of potato tonight at a meal out and my rise was only 2.5, so I am going to try a small portion of potato with a simpler meal to see how big the rise is.

Did you get offered a meter or told not to test as I'd be saying get a meter to see what spikes you and what doesn't
The SD codefree one is the cheapest out there you can get from Amazon and Home health website.
If you like bread swap it for whole grain or burgen soya and linseed and see if you can tolerate it as some can some can't.
I have red meat such as steaks, minces etc
I also have cheese and not low fat either
Full fat creams too
I love veg and have loads of it.
It's test test test just to see.
Good luck now.

Steve - The Diet Doctor site has loads and loads of information on it, and some fabulously tasty and filling low carb recipes. I'll post you a couple of links:
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/60-seconds
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb

When I was sorting my eating out, after diagnosis, I didn't buy any books, I just Googled for the things I wanted to know. I also joined this website and a couple of others to engage with people living with the condition.

Honestly, once you get your head around things, you won't be short of food ideas, and you certainly won't be going hungry.

Good luck with it all.
