Carbs

I followed a real food version of the Newcastle Diet (about 800 cals and 50-55 g carbs per day) for 3 months and lost 15 kg to go into remission. No medication.

If losing weight again I'd follow guidelines like these:
- https://phcuk.org/wp-content/uploads/A_5_page_low_carb_diet_leaflet_Unwin_2021-converted.pdf
- What should we eat? https://www.zoeharcombe.com/2021/08/what-should-we-eat/

I have found 16:8 and 5:2 intermittent fasting helpful. Early TRE (Time Restricted Eating) looks worth a try too.

Hi
I am really struggling to lose weight - does everyone do calories and if so how many and do you do low carbs ??
Hi. Sorry to hear you're struggling. I lost weight after diagnosis by a combination of low carb (less than 130g per day) and cutting calories, though I can't remember how low I went. These days I continue to do low carb but I try and keep my calories at a level that maintains my current weight.

The Soups & Shakes diet that's recommended for some is 800 calories per day, if that helps. I'm not sure I ever went that low.

I do a combo of carbs and cals, although to be honest, if you're going low carb you don't really need to count the calories that much.
I just cut out all spuds, rice, bread and pasta, though this isn't actually recommended as it can lead to vision problems which I wasn't aware of at the time, and only discovered thanks to this lovely forum. A gradual reduction of such carbs is preferred.
The amazing thing about cutting out all the carbs I craved was that within a couple of weeks, I'd stopped craving them! I do occasionally eat them now, but not with the gusto I used to attack them with.

I cut all the sugar and sweet stuff the first couple of weeks after diagnosis and then started cutting the starchy carbs like bread and pasta and potatoes after that. My morning porridge was the last carb rich food to go, but now I really enjoy my creamy Greek style natural yoghurt with berries and mixed seeds instead and don't miss my porridge. Like @Vonny, the more carbs I cut from my diet, the less craving I had for them.... and I was a massive comfort eater, sugar/chocolate addict and carb monster pre diagnosis, so changing diet to low carb has been a revelation for me and lots of health benefits came with the change of diet which also helps me to stick with it.
