Hi all, just out of interest how many carbs do you have on average. I consume around 150g a day.

My target max is 150gm and is roughly what I have.

I don’t have a limit or a target at all. I just eat normally really and count my carbs. Some of my meals have more carbs than others but that’s not by design, just chance. I plan what I’m going to have by thinking about health, taste, etc etc, then I just add up the carbs of the meals I’ve chosen. My daily carb intake is anywhere from 130g - 200g. Probably my average would be around 175g per day.

I have never been able to eat massive meals my whole adult life without suffering ie by simply being overstuffed and hence uncomfortable, rather than anything else. As it happens it kind of works out between 80 and 120g carb a day so I spose the average is c 100g. But, I'm a 5ft 2ins girl retired office worker and have never been able to do a lot of that Spanish thing that blokes are usually far better at, what's it called? - oh yeah - Manuel Labor.

These days I'm worn out when I Hoover!

I probably have about 150-200 a day. If ive eaten out or had takeaway or a bad hypo it’s probably more like 250, below about 150 and I feel ill or have an upset stomach. I’m trying to bring it down to be nearer 150 than 200 more consistently.

Like @Inka I have no target.
I find it more important to know how to dose my insulin.
The carbs I eat varies day by day, especially as I exercise a lot most days which makes my insulin more potent so may need more carbs.
I may have cake one day and pasta for dinner whereas the next day I may have omelette and no cake.
I eat a very varied diet mostly cooking from scratch and avoiding processed food but not avoiding carbs as I don’t have carb intolerance - I have Type 1 diabetes.

Do you split your bolus if your carb intake is on the higher side ? Or can you take say 15 units for 150g Cho all in one go ?

Probably between about 50 and 80g carbs a day for me.

I don't pay too much attention to my carb intake but it's usually about 150g to 200g with occasional blow outs like tonight where I have a takeaway chicken curry.

I try not to eat too much crap though so I'll have chocolate OR a curry but not both. That's just about not wanting to plump up again though.

I eat between 50 and 125g of carbs a day. Today it is 98.5g.

I don’t often eat 150g carbs in one meal because I prefer to spread the carbs out over the day, but for a larger carb intake like that, I’d split the bolus and I’d also check my blood sugar extra afterwards as I find personally that somewhere around the 100/120g mark (in one meal) the carbs are processed by my body more slowly. As I have a pump, I might also consider extending the bolus.

I average about 80g's aday it's just how it works out with my diet but happy to go 120g's.

I started about 50-70g but now I have lost the weight I wanted and got my HbA1c to 39 I have increased a little bit to around 50-100g

On average I eat around 150g per day. It may vary slightly but I tend not to have more than 200g - it may depend on exercise or the weather (if it's hot I tend to lose my appetite and eat lots of salad stuff, if it's cold I'll just generally eat a bit more!!).

Very interesting topic for me, thank you Type1 Pat.
I have just started on Humulin 1 as the tablets i was taking were not coping with my uncontrolled excessive carb intake. After going to the doctor they started me on the insulin.
I am now getting things under control and recording my food intake and macro nutrients. I currently am for 100g of carbs per day. On average it tends to be higher through protein and Fat intake as there appears to be carbs associated with them especially eating more plant based food, not veggy but trying healthier choices as cholesterol also through the roof.
Exercise also increases my blood glucose so this is something else in trying to adjust too

I'm Type 2 so have to be more careful with my carbs. I aim for around 90gm a day but don't worry up to 110gm. Today it's just 63gm.

Hi @Type1Pat I'm like @Inka & @helli I don't limit my carbs I just count them. My breakfast and lunch are usually roughly the same and tea is different from day to day
Yesterday - 135g total
Friday - 189g total
Wednesday - 213g total
Tuesday - 128g total

@Type 1 Pat - another thing to watch out for, as well as a large amount of carbs taking longer to hit the bloodstream than the insulin does sometimes - is that when you need a higher dose of insulin - it is sometimes not simply a matter of saying 'It's 50g more carbs, so add 5u insulin' (or whatever insulin dose that would be expected for you) - it does sometimes mean you need an additional bit extra on top of whatever it actually calculates to, to counteract the food.

I shouldn't be amazed if there's a scientific reason for this - but you know what? If there is, I don't know it and hence just accept it as one of those things about my Type 1 that reiterates my knowledge that dose adjustment isn't a precise method for determining doses, especially as I most certainly am not precise with the 'Carb counting' part of the equation!

OTOH it wouldn't surprise me if there was NOT an accepted scientific reason either!

My average daily intake for carbs is between 90g and 120g, well that's what I aim for and I'm pretty close to that figure day on day.

I'm 6 foot 2" and weigh 90Kg (14 stone).

Daily is usually 60g for meal times, then maybe another 20-30g for snacks if low or hungry between meals. BGs are still often high but can't reduce much more.
Don't think I could eat much more carbs, as dislike feeling too full, especially after anything carb-intensive (like rhubarb crumble (had a spoonful last night) & yoghurt).
Retired and not doing much intense physical work, so I don't feel much need for many carbs.
