I have just been reading the breakfast cereal thread. I have learned a lot from this forum about spikes and the effect of different carbs. When I started I was told the best breakfast is porridge and I have eaten it with fruit for years. I do seem to have a lot of spikes and hypos at different times but have put it down to my poor carb counting. Also forgetting to inject. I have done a type one education course.

I see now that I need to test more often, make allowances for fat content and even stagger my injections. And I don't need carbs with every meal

So should I take the amount of insulin I think I need then just test every hour to find out the effect of different foods. This maybe why my hba1c is so high. I always come out of the clinic feeling i must try harder.

All the info on here is much appreciated.

Yes Bessie, test and adjust is a logical approach. Take what you think you need, then test and make notes. If something spikes you then you can adjust upward next time you have that and hopefully it will make the difference.
