Unusually I had a high protein breakfast, along with 25g of carbs. Very yummy.
I did the usual ratio for carbs, but wondered whether I should have taken any account of the protein.

Also how do you find out about amounts of protein. I just use Carbs and Cals which does what it says on the cover, with no mention of protein.

I expect you'll find out when your BGs are either high later on, or exactly where you thought they should be!
I have to take account of a protein breakfast, but only if there's a big protein load without much carb, eg, scrambled eggs. I use the nutritional info on the eggbox. ( no good if you buy them from a private seller, though). I used to use myfitnesspal, which gives you the protein content as well as all the other nutritional info, but I deleted my account 1. because they got hacked and 2. I thought I was getting a bit obsessive. You can usually Google 'protein content of X ' and it quite often links to the myfitnesspal info without you having to download the App and register.

I think this is a very individual thing with diabetics - another one!! For instance if I have scrambled eggs (x2) (no milk added) I have to take account of it; however if a poached egg (x1) with avocado or small bacon medallion; or fried eggs (x2) with mushrooms and/or bacon no account needed - just an example of many anomalies of how my body reacts to certain foods (and what I have with them) I have found over the years with trial and error!

Good tips from @Robin. Not much more to add, though I wondered if you'd ever seen this graph which suggests conversion rates and factors for protein and fat...

Thanks Mike
That fits with what happened. I shall know for next time. In general I don’t bother about protein as my D head only has space for Carbs, but I may have to deal with it at breakfast on occasions, (or just have an extra slice of toast!!!)

Yes, I confess I rarely 'count' protein or fat with any accuracy. I do recognise that I have to allow extra for certain meals though, and generally use a vague set of rules of thumb as those meals are often fairly tricksy anyway!

I printed out that graph for my hospital dietician, on 24/04/18, as I was having problems with sustained high BS from cheese!

I remember reading a very recent post of @trophywench, about how to deal with delayed spikes of some foods. Have 40% of your insulin dose upfront! Then half of your remaining dose (30%) 2 hours after. Then the last half of the remaining dose (30%) 2 hours after that. I'm not sure I remembered correctly about the time intervals as I don't remember where that post is!

I find that eating cheese before I exercise isn't much of a problem now, though!
