Last night I had half a jacket potato with a small tin of spaghetti. The spaghetti had 25.9 carbohydrates of which sugar was 7.9.
Two hours later my BS as 9.9. The same happens with a small tin of baked beans. I am not on any medication yet just D & E.
Should I not be eating spaghetti and baked beans.

Many diabetics, me included, find reducing the amount of complex carbohydrate we eat helps reduce our blood sugar levels. I cut way down on the amounts of rice, pasta, spuds and bread after I was diagnosed and now only have wholegrain bread and the occasional portion of wild rice. I use alternatives like sweet potato, mixed carrot and swede and our forum favourite cauli in place of spuds most of the time. I think if you give it a go, you may find it helps you to. Try bulking up meals with veg. Check out the Food and recipes section for ideas.

well you should be able to eat spaghetti and definitely beans in moderation. But if they are out of a can its the sauce that can a big problem. Rinse the beans or switch to better alternatives like canellini or borlotti.

Well basically the whole caboodle was just carbs and nowt else. Hence not really a good meal choice to limit it to only one food group. Not 'balanced'.

If you are having carbs in the spud, have some protein and fat with it - eg chhese, or some butter and ham. Or salad. Or anything really that ain't just more carbs.
