Hi everyone it’s been about a week since starting to test again ,I’m getting my sugar levels down 7.0 to 8.0 mostly ,first test I did was 13.4 which freaked me out that was test one , I’ve had to re learn again about carbs all the stuff I forgot ,I can have 2 slices of whole meal bread and my sugar levels are 8.0 after 2 hours also a small potato baked ,boiled also 8.0 my morning reading is 7.2 to 7.6 ,are these numbers ok or do you all think I should be lower than this ,I have gone testing mad but I’m beginning to settle down now lol all your help is greatly appreciated

As those are foods which I can't eat at all, you are doing very well indeed.

Thanks drummer I can’t do brown rice or chips or tortilla wraps or porridge weetabix all that cereal stuff ,the best reading I’ve had was home made burger and salad 5.7 ,I use to be really good about what i eat but I’ve gone off track the past year ,good job I started testing again

Sounds like you are making great progress @Chris70

The general guidance for T2s used to be 4-7 before meals and no higher than 8.5 by 2 hours after meals.

That 13.4 must have been a shocker! I wonder if it was just a duff strip? All meter handbooks suggest that if any result doesn’t match how you feel, or seems unexpected, you should confirm it by rechecking.

Thanks for your reply
It’s funny you should say that about the strips because I’ve tested and got 10.8 then again and got 8.8 I’m making sure I wash my hands before as well,I’m slowly getting it under control again I will get there

Well yes... BG meters have an allowable degree of variation which can mean two results in quick succession could quite easily give slightly different numbers - see the table below

I hadn’t realised the variation was as wide as that.
It certainly makes sense to think of all readings as ‘ish’

The hand washing when out and about is not always possible, so I tend to wipe the first blob away (seeing that as washing the site) and then use the second blob.
