Hi everyone - was wondering if carb counting for diabetes is the same as carb counting for the keto diet ?
Do I deduct the fibre content from the carb content to get the net carb content?
Hope someone out there can help - I forgot to ask the nurse yesterday doh!!

Hi again @hohum If you want to count up the carbs you eat each day, use the total carb amount. We don’t have ‘net carbs’ in the U.K. If you look at a packet, the figure you’re looking at is simply Carbohydrates. Fibre has already been deducted.

In the US (maybe elsewhere?) fiber (with an er) is counted as a carbohydrate, for mysterious reasons, so you have to deduct it from total carbs to get 'net carbs', which this side of the water means 'actual carbs'.
When looking up nutritional info online the clue as to which is used in in the spelling - fiber (US) or fibre (UK/Ireland).

You aren’t the first to have been foxed by the whole carbs / net carbs / fibre / fiber shenanigans @hohum

And I’m sure you won’t be the last either!

Not something we need to worry about with UK food labels, but good to know if browsing US websites and resources..
