Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn’t find a thread. The packet says 100% carbohydrate but I’ve read various things that say 75% isn’t absorbed so to count is as 25g carbs per 100g. Does that work in reality or does it vary from person to person.

(FWIW my daughter is 9.)

I think it does vary by person, and also by type, but I think the usual convention for sugar alcohols like xylitol is to use 50%. See eg https://dtc.ucsf.edu/living-with-di...rning-to-read-labels/counting-sugar-alcohols/

Though I really think it's a matter for individual testing. Eg: xylitol seems to have a much bigger impact for me than for others (I hate the stuff!)

Thanks, I’ll experiment a little based around 50% and see.

I know this thread is about a small person, but if you have pets, it's very noteworthy that xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs, and therefore should never, ever be given to them.

Being a pet-free household, I have no idea what the situation may be with cats.

Thank you, yes I know that which is why we never had it in the house when we had a food stealing Labrador who is sadly no longer with us.

You do know that all the 'ols' have 'gastric' side effects - ie anything from minor farting to a mudslide?

Oh joy

But yes, I don’t think we’ll use it in large quantities.
