Carb counting question

Hello,

This is probably a stupid question, but I've confused myself.

I'm gearing up to eat low carb. Aim for 130g a day. But do I count total carbs or net carbs? I didn't even know there was a distinction until this morning! Lol!

@pinknitwit It’s the total carbs you’re looking at. Net carbs is an American thing. I’m presuming you’re in the U.K.? Are you on insulin? If not, it’s not so crucial anyway (for people on insulin ‘carb counting’ means something different).

Yes I'm in UK, but that makes sense now as I checked the author of the book I've been reading and they arecamerican. No noninsulin or anything else, hoping I can avoid that by doing dietary changes, and obviously more exercise.

I'm so tired that's hard to imagine but I need to push through that I think.

The only time the American 'net carbs' thing becomes an issue is when looking up the nutritional information of foods online. If a food lists 'fiber' (with an er at the end) then it's American, and you have to deduct the fiber from total carbs to get 'net' carbs (actual, digestible carbohydrates). All food labelling this side of the Atlantic lists 'fibre' (with an re) separately to carbs, so no maths required.
