Hi weecee, welcome to the forum
🙂 Sounds like you are doing pretty well - well done!
🙂 How did your diagnosis come about? The recommended daily amount for carbs is something like 250-300g per day, but I think most of us would find this way too high, even on insulin
😱 Personally, I have about 100-150g per day which I find gives me lots of flexibility over what I can eat but keeps my blood glucose under good control and insulin doses quite low (higher insulin doses can be less predictable, so for me, lower doses work better). Really, much will depend on what you can tolerate, both the amount and type of carbs - some will hit your blood sugar levels faster than others. You will need to weigh non-packaged food, or read the information panels on packaged foods to work out the amounts of carbs - writing a food diary for a week or two will really help with understanding what you are consuming - remember the carbs in drinks as well as food! You can use something like the
Collins Gem Calorie Counter to look up the carbs in most items.
As it appears you have a meter I'd suggest having a read of
Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S - this will help you to monitor the effects of different meals on your levels and tailor your consumption to what you can tolerate well
🙂 I'd also suggest having a look at the 'Glycaemic Load' approach to selecting and combining foods so that they have a slow, steady impact on blood glucose levels,
The GL Diet for Dummies is a very good introduction
