Grapes seem to be the snack of choice in the office I'm working in. My low carb radar bleeps at me every time I see it.

Maybe it's an over simplification, but a 400g punnet (the consumption vehicle of choice) is 16 teaspoons of sugar. My kidneys are aching at the thought...

I find myself counting the carbs whenever I see anyone eating :D

We call them 'sugar bombs' PG...one of the few fruits I would eat before my diagnosis...now...the thought makes me shudder!
 
Before diagnosis I would quite happily sit and eat an entire punnet of grapes, now they are a complete no-no.
 
Grapes are delicious though! Personally, I find a punnet can quite a few days, if I keep it in the fridge and have a few at a time.
However, at this time of year, there are so many free local fruits, so why on earth would you buy grapes?!? I've just been to an industrial museum, and was very pleasantly surprised to find a tree dripping with small plums and brambles with many ripe blackberries. So, I found the small plastic bags I keep in my rucksack and jacket pocket at all times, and came home with enough for a few days 🙂 Transferred fruit to plastic boxes to keep in fridge, so they won't go off before I eat them all.
 
I can drink a couple of glasses of them though! :D
 
When the DN at the surgery where I go was giving me advice on food she said that grapes were fine to eat and that I could have "a handful" per day. I pointed out that they are very sweet and she replied "fruit sugar" does not count. Fortunately I did not take her advice 🙂 I agree thought that they are nice and I do miss fruit very much.
 
@happydog I've got a list of fruits to avoid when I visited my dietician
  1. grapes
  2. bananas
  3. khakis
  4. figs
  5. tangerines
  6. salted seeds like pistachios or peanuts
  7. mangos and papayas
So different dieticians, different advices. It's a bad thing to find that a MD doesn't know that fructose is a sugar like sucrose or dextrose...

Not heard of 'khakis' before? What's wrong with pistachios/peanuts?
 
I used to eat loads of grapes until my GP told me to cut down on fruit when I was diagnosed pre-diabetic. Now I only eat berries and apples or sometimes an orange or a nectarine but no more than 2 a day. Fruit sugar certainly does count - my GP told me that, although it is natural sugar, your body still has to process it the same.

When I was at work every day the offices were full of biscuits, chocolates and cakes but I just thought let everyone get on with it and left them alone. I don't want to deliberately make health problems for myself. If they happen anyway, at least I will have tried.

I understand, I don't say anything, but at the same time inwardly lament.
 
Thank you for the list Mike. I have to confess succumbing to some strawberries (we grow our own and they are delicious) this year but normaly I no longer eat any fruit :(. DN told me peanuts are not good because they are not really nuts but a legume.

Strawberries are one of the lowest in carbs per 100g (just 6g per 100g).

That's very true but I don't understand why that makes them bad?
 
I eat peanuts with no BS problems. Usually just a handful as a snack now & then.
