Just got back from my prescription review and the quantity of strips/testing was never mentioned. 🙂

I've been very lucky so far with Carol's prescription for strips.

When Carol was first diagnosed and put on mix, we were told she only needed to test 3 times a day (plus when feeling low).

When she went on MDI it became 4 times a day.

Now on the pump it varies, but 4 is really the minimum.

Right from the start Carol got 100 strips per prescription, but I order them as-and-when (not monthly). So when Carol went on the pump, I found with all the testing 100 didn't go very far. So I simply asked (I order via email) if they could please double up the prescription, as she needs to test twice as often than before.
My wish was granted without any arguments.🙂

When we go on holiday, I always order everything double, so that I can take double on holiday and still have some left at home. Never had any trouble with that either.

I wonder if the demographics of the area makes a difference.

In practices where most patients are young, healthy types they can probably afford to be a bit more realistic about prescribing and still afford their 4 holidays per year.

Here, the population is relatively old with many retired people and they presumably need a lot of tablets and check-ups, so the GPs need to be more stingey so they can scrape a meagre 30% profit from the practice.

Am I getting cynical again ? 😱

Sometimes, I seriously think it is down to the funding these doctors get! Gets me cross...
