Canada on Monday suspended the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine for people under 55 following concerns it might be linked to rare blood clots.

The pause was recommended by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization for safety reasons. The Canadian provinces, which administer health in the country, announced the suspension on Monday.

“There is substantial uncertainty about the benefit of providing AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to adults under 55 given the potential risks,” said Dr Shelley Deeks, vice-chair of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization.

Deeks said the updated recommendations came amid new data from Europe that suggests the risk of blood clots is now potentially as high as one in 100,000, much higher than the one in one million risk believed before.

She said most of the patients in Europe who developed a rare blood clot after vaccination with AstraZeneca were women under age 55, and the fatality rate among those who develop clots is as high as 40%.

Hmm... so 1 in 100,000 might be getting blood clots :( But I read the other day that about 1 in 450 people in the UK had DIED from Covid-19 😱 :( I know what odds I'd prefer 😱 Surely there is sufficient data from the millions of people who have already received the AZ vaccine for countries to make decisions?

Women under 55 are more likely to be on the contraceptive pill, which increases the risk of blood clots (for the combined pill, anyway). I wonder if they took this into account.

And that’s despite the WHO telling everyone the vaccine is safe. Bit late to the show, mind. That’ll be the French, the tripe Macron was spouting.

Take chances with vaccine, no hesitation getting follow up AZ jab in 9 weeks.

when my partner was stented and then went on to have a stroke i was told it was a delayed stroke from been stented the time frame was around 3 months.

i am just wondering if research is showing from when someone is vaccinated to getting the clots what the time frame is.

we have to remember that these vaccines were rushed out on temp licences and the other question was astra aware of the risk of clots during trials.

the problem with any medications or vaccines is that there are all ways going to be side effects or risks, i experienced that over the weekend when sat here suffering with chest pains from a well known beta blocker since stopped thank god but the damage could of been far worse.

the problem with vaccines is once the stuff is in you there is no going back you can't just stop it like with medications.

one thing we are getting to know with these vaccines is they are causing unstable BG as loads have been coming on here reporting problems the issue is why?

in the end it is up to individuals as to what they decide to do i for one when feeling better am having mine as i have all ready seen the worse covid did with my partner and yes i was exposed to covid and my doctors think i am suffering from long covid symptoms which is not nice when that ends is unknown.
