I'm on steroid eye drops for a week and waking up to high BG levels. There is conflicting advice on the internet as to whether they can raise BG levels. Any thoughts please.

Not had steroid eye drops, but have had cream based steroids and they raised my BG levels, can't remember if as a bad of a rise as when on tablet form.

They say they can't but I found they did.

Yup, they can and do in my experience. In fact, I was warned about it.

Thank you everyone.
Sue and Mikey thank you for confirming. I did wonder why I was waking in the mid-teens. Fortunately I finish them on Monday and now know to definitely not mess around with my basal levels.

Thanks Jenny. I can't believe it took me so long to work out what might be causing the BG problem as I kept increasing the basal!

I had 2 months of steroid eye drops on a gradually decreasing dose recently and they did increase my levels marginally but not massively. I think any steroid treatment that gets into the tissues could have the usual steroid side effects though my Consultant seemed sceptical that they would.

Thanks Amigo. I had a GP once who said that tablet steroids wouldn't my BG!

Even a steroid injection into my shoulder temporarily affected my BG's Amanda. The medics don't read the research into the effects I've found. Best wishes.

I was asked if I had received any steroid treatment when I was diagnosed as it was thought that this could be why I was showing high BGs, so they certainly can raise your levels. Hope you get back to normal for you very soon AJ 🙂

Thank you Amigo and Happydog. I had the last eye steroid drop at 1pm so now keeping fingers crossed that the eye problem doesn't come back.
