I don’t want to sound daft but I don’t know what to do or think.

On Friday I had a bit of an accident. I had to go down a few steps and for some reason a lad barged passed and sent me flying, it was a bit like going through the air a little bit and then hitting the concrete floor.

I managed to use my hands to stop my face hitting the floor but my legs and knees took the full force.

No one helped me and I had to get myself up and I felt emotional and I cried when I was going home.

I’ve taken skin off my left knee and there’s a huge scab forming, my whole knee and leg is sore and also my right leg a little and my arm. I also am finding in bed having my quilt on me is even sore.

I tried to get in at the GP but they fobbed me off.

I feel emotional over it still and still to an extent feel like I’m in shock and my BG is raised since. Could it be related?

Hello Mark,
good to see you back again.
Wow hope your soreness soon goes. In answer to your question yes shock and pain will raise your blood sugars.

So sorry to hear about your accident and I’m so sorry to hear that no one helped you . Hope you’re feeling less sore today x

That sounds awful Mark. Hopefully you're knee will mend itself before you know it and you feel more yourself too.

I'd rather you rang 111 to be quite honest - I did that sort of thing a couple of years ago one Saturday lunchtime - and when I eventually said OK then, perhaps I better go to A&E cos it's still swollen - turned out I'd smashed my patella.

Sorry to hear about your tumble @MarkGeordie

Glad you managed to break your fall a little, but sorry that your legs and knees took the brunt of it :(

Hope you bounce back soon(!) and your BGs settle back down. Stress and injury certainly can wreak havoc with your levels, but hopefully your recovery will be speedy. 🙂

think it is awful that you was knocked to the floor and yet no one came to help you. hope you get sorted soon and do get checked up if possible.

Hello Mark,

Hi Sue, yes it’s been a while, I’ve spent the last few weeks moving and getting things sorted.
I'd rather you rang 111 to be quite honest - I did that sort of thing a couple of years ago one Saturday lunchtime - and when I eventually said OK then, perhaps I better go to A&E cos it's still swollen - turned out I'd smashed my patella.
I’ve decided I am going to ring 111 this morning and see what they advise. Not sure if turning up at A&E is the best thing at the moment.

I am thinking though that it does need an x-ray.

Just an update:

I contacted 111 who assessed me as needing to be seen in the urgent care centre which is next to the local A&E. When I got there they had received no information from 111 so said I would need to go through A&E so that’s what I did.

I was triaged and told to go over to minor injuries where I saw a nurse practitioner.

To be honest she didn’t seem too interested or bothered. She said her best guess was soft tissue damage and to rest and take paracetamol.

I did explain that’s what I’d done all weekend and it had not helped.

Maybe I need to do a follow up call with GP instead if no improvement soon?

Sorry this seems to be a real tangle for you. Horrible you got knocked over and took a tumble and then nobody helped you and now the after care you should be getting isn't exactly making you feel looked after is it? Yes I think a follow up call to the GP is in order. Try not to let them fob you off. Does your GP have an email you can use to arrange appointments? Sometimes it can be helpful to use email instead of the phone. I have problems using the phone so I use the email system my GP has set up.

In the mean time be extra kind to yourself and try and give yourself some sort of little treat - you deserve one.

It is a horrible shock when something like that happens. I hope the bumps and bruises healquickly.

Yes, stress and shock do indeed cause BG levels to rise.

I hope you're feeling better @MarkGeordie and not too sore after your accident.

Always a shocker when that sort of thing happens. My other half swears by a ginger and sea salt bath to sooth aches and pains...

If you don't feel any better, my suggestion is calling again and being as adamant as you can.

Aw @MarkGeordie, poor you. I can’t believe no-one helped you after your fall! Okay, there’s Covid to think about, but still. I’m upset for you. :( 😡 In answer to your question, yes pain / shock can raise BG. My mum dislocated her hip a few years back and the paramedics checked her BG immediately afterwards - it was up at around 11 (she isn’t diabetic).

I hope you’re feeling better asap.
