Hi I was diagnosed type 2, 10yrs ago, put on Metformin. On Metformin 2 yrs, lost a lot of weight then diet controlled only. During COVID lockdown I’m now back to square one with high sugar readings, in a few weeks after another blood test I think I will be back in Metformin again. Can I reverse my readings again to stay on diet controlled.

I don't see why not, if you have done it before then you know how to do it - reduce those carbs again slowly, get in some form of exercise - but even when you reverse it, you still have to stay within the carb limits to maintain it or it will just creep up again. It is something we have to learn to live with, to eat to our limits, no matter how low our numbers become. We are never going to be able to eat in the "old way" again, but this new lifestyle is healthier anyway, so we are better off than before.
You don't say how much higher your BG has become, but if it isn't too high they might let you go the diet and exercise route without the metformin. The HbA1c blood test covers the past 3 months, the BG is your level at that particular time - so it could depend on your 3-month result - it would be too late to make any difference to it now as you won't have the 3 months to bring it down. Hopefully it won't come back too high and they may be able to let you try again without meds. Good luck.

Your experience shows that whatever regime to use to manage blood glucose levels and keep them where they need to be has to be something that you enjoy and is sustainable. It is no good regarding it as a short term measure.
But yes you can do it as you know fundamentally what you need to do but this time with an approach that doesn't feel like a chore. This link might help you with some ideas for a low carb approach which many find successful and maintainable.

What type of diet did you use the first time around?

Welcome to the forum @Kabbey

And well done for putting your diabetes into remission once before! Can you see anything that has changed over the lockdown period?

Sometimes diabetes can just shift and change over time, and different strategies are required as diabetes duration increases. This doesn’t mean it is getting ‘worse’ it just means that different management strategies might be required to help keep your glucose levels in balance.

Some people’s diabetes seems to be linked to visceral fat around the liver and pancreas which can stop the organs functioning properly. It may be that your weight loss reduced or removed this visceral fat - but some of it may have returned?
