I don't understand the point in taking loads of tablets, but not being able to eat like a normal person. I don't want to pig out on cake and pizza etc., but the occasional biscuit or two, or (like today) a slice of cake in the office as someone is leaving.

Surely, taking loads of medication and having to still eat like a mouse is like having Malaria pills then not going to Africa!

Hi Jumbly, You can have the occasional biscuit or piece of cake - its all about moderation and unfortunately not all the time.

I like to think I just generally stick to healthy eating and it is not a diet and I do eat like a normal person - I do occasional enjoy the odd little treat now and again. Once you have settled down and you understand how the food affects you, you will be able to see that it is you who is eating like a normal person and those who do not eat very health are not normal.

Hi Jumbly.

I think the point is that everyone else should really be eating and thinking as we (especially type 2) need to.

As Di says, occasional treats are ok but you have to se it that, rather than being like a malaria shot, which is by choice, your body isn't quite doing all it should and so you can't let rip like the average person.

By the same token, as a T1, I could theoretically eat anything and cover it by injecting more insulin but there comes a point where the meds will stop covering the excess and your body crumbles under the strain.

If you can see it as a healthier 'normal' way of living then you can feel smug as you watch everyone else slowly abuse their bodies while your gets healthier and healthier.

But you still get to eat a few treats on the way because your general daily life keeps you in better shape.🙂
